A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in the research group of Prof. Nishant Garg. The postdoc will lead and oversee an interdisciplinary project in affiliation with the Institute of Sustainability, Energy, and Environment focusing on the characterization and utilization of municipal solid waste incineration ashes. Strong background in analytical chemistry, characterization of crystalline and amorphous solids, and inorganic materials science is preferred.
Minimum qualifications include a PhD in a relevant field (including but not limited to: civil engineering, materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering). Ideal candidate is highly motivated, has a track-record of high quality publications, able to work in an interdisciplinary environment, and has excellent spoken and written English communication skills. Applicants with demonstrated experience in advanced analytical tools involving imaging, spectroscopy, and diffraction will be given preference. Strong programming background is a plus.
