Postdoctoral Fellow: Organic Chemistry/COVID
- UC San Diego
- Location: San Diego, CA
- Job Number: 7068473
- Posting Date: Jul 31, 2020
Job DescriptionA postdoctoral position is available to build contrast agents for molecular imaging of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Our laboratory uses imaging data to study a variety of molecular mechanisms related to human health (http://jjokerst.eng.ucsd.edu/). The primary goal of this postdoctoral fellowship is to create optically-active molecules to image enzymatic activity. These probes will be used for chemiluminescence, bioluminescence, and/or photoacoustic spectroscopy and animal models of human disease.
Interested applicants must have a PhD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or a closely related field. Preference will be given to applicants with an outstanding publication record and expertise in chemical synthesis as well as molecular biology and imaging. Experience with peptide chemistry is a major advantage. Applicants should be highly motivated, creative, and independent and be interested in a multi-disciplinary approach involving chemistry, engineering, optics, and clinical translation. The work will be conducted in beautiful La Jolla, California with a fantastic climate and excellent quality of life.
Our lab remains operational despite the COVID-19 precautions; the candidate should be prepared to work shifts or take on other flexibility in light of the current pandemic. The work will not use active SARS viruses—only analogues. Persons already in the United States are strongly preferred due to travel restrictions.
