Join our diverse team and solve significant issues and challenges for our nation's security!** We are seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Appointee to augment our team’s biology and counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (C-WMD) research capabilities. We operate multiple testing facilities including aerosol laboratories, the Sandia Fog Chamber, bioaerosol test chambers, decontamination chemistry laboratories, and Bio Safety Level (BSL-2) laboratories. We partner with Sandia and external groups to deliver cross-cutting technical solutions and R&D in support of our counter-WMD mission. We execute work for numerous government agencies and private companies On any given day, the selected applicant may be called on to: + Lead and conduct experiments in both laboratory and field environments + Collect, analyze, and report data to our customers + Conceptualize and implement new and cutting-edge biological techniques supporting our broad mission space + Participate in lab-wide postdoctoral working groups and collaborations + Author proposals, technical papers, and reports
+ PhD in biology, biochemistry, or other relevant STEM field (within the last 5 years) + Two years relevant laboratory experience + Demonstrated experience with common biological techniques and equipment used in microbiology, molecular biology, or cell biology (e.g. culturing bacteria, viruses, and mammalian cells, plaque assays, microscopy, qPCR, CRISPR, etc...) + Can obtain a DOE Q clearance
+ 3+ years related laboratory experience + Demonstrated experience in conducting large scale field studies and testing + Demonstrated ability and interest in adjacent fields (e.g. bioaerosol, aerosol/atmospheric sciences, CHEM/BIO/RAD agent dispersion, mechanical design, chemistry, diagnostic development, etc…) + Demonstrated experience successfully interacting with customers, project sponsors, and/or external collaborators + Demonstrated experience developing custom data analysis or image processing codes using MATLAB or Python + Demonstrated experience creating Labview routines + Demonstrated experience conducting modeling and simulation (e.g. CFD) + Excellent written and verbal communication skills
We apply chemistry, biology, computer science, engineering, and aerosol science to address real world situations that involve Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), primarily chemical and biological (CB) threats. The Team focuses on countering CB threats and similar dangers by conducting research and development in transport and fate, decontamination and remediation, and detection and interdiction of CB threats, especially aerosolized threats. The Team also uses extensive knowledge of aerosol science, chemistry, and engineering to address broader technological issues, ranging from the development of commercial products, especially decontamination formulations, and the performance of various foams to using aerosols to enhance performance of security and weapon systems.
