Job DescriptionPOSTDOCTORAL POSITION – Vascular Biology/Oxidative stress/Ion channels
A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Helena Parfenova, Department of Physiology, University of Tennessee Heath Science Center, to study the effects of oxidative stress on the physiological functions of cerebral vessels. We use neonatal pigs as a clinically relevant large animal model of cerebral vascular disease and blood-brain barrier disruption caused by epileptic seizures and hypoxia-asphyxia. We place particular emphasis on endogenous antioxidant cytoprotective mechanisms in the neonatal brain. We combine intravital microscopy of the brain vasculature with cellular-molecular studies in cerebrovascular myocytes, endothelial cells, and astrocytes to identify the mechanisms of neurovascular survival during oxidative stress.
Experience with cellular-molecular biology, confocal microscopy, blood-brain barrier permeability, and mechanisms of cell death is preferred.
PhD or MD. Proficiency in electrophysiological recordings of ion channels is absolutely required.
Please send curriculum vitae, description of the research experience, and names and addresses of three
