Job DescriptionWe are seeking a post-doctoral scientist to join our interdisciplinary research team, preferably with an analytical background. The ideal candidate will conduct research and development in the area of functional foods and nutraceuticals. Using a new patented technology, the goal of the project is to specifically develop various grains, seeds, and sprouts (e.g., hemp) fortified with health-promoting ingredients. This research program is a collaboration between scientists at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (Drs. Jana Kraft and Heather Darby) and industry partners (Botanical Intelligence, Inc.). The position will provide ample opportunity for exploration into cross-disciplinary research.
This position will design/develop, validate/verify, and oversee the implementation of project objectives and activities. Oversee data reporting and project communication with partners and sponsors. Prepare and disseminate results through publications, presentations, and scientific conferences.
The fellow will work full time at The University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont. The position is a grant-funded fixed-term contract for 24 months started as soon as possible. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
Required professional and technical expertise include a PhD in food science, nutrition, chemistry, biology or closely related science discipline. Degree must be obtained prior to starting date and no more than five (5) years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences, and to work independently as well as in a team environment. Expertise in analytical techniques and gas chromatography is preferable. Sound knowledge of statistics. Demonstrated research productivity by first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
