A Postdoctoral researcher position is available to participate in ongoing NIH-funded research. This NIH-funded laboratory is currently involved in pre-clinical studies of probiotics in intestinal tight junction barrier function and intestinal injury models, with the goal of advancement to clinical trials. The funded project seeks to study the role of probiotics in the enhancement of intestinal epithelial barrier and treatment of intestinal inflammations. The preferred candidate will have previous experience in microbiology and whole animal surgical skills as well as cell biology and molecular biology. Candidates should have strong skills in utilizing tissue cultures, mouse models of inflammatory bowel disease, and a wide array of molecular and biochemical methodologies. This position is in the lab of Dr. Thomas Ma, new Chair of Medicine and well-established NIH-funded investigator. The expected qualifications of candidates include Ph.D. in microbiology/ immunology/ biochemistry/physiology or related field. Good publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Experiences in microbiology, cell culture, handling mice, and treating mice with commonly-used drug administration approaches. Be highly self-motivated with strong interest in learning new knowledge and techniques; Have excellent communication and organizational skills and attention to details, Be capable of conceptualizing, designing experiments and conducting studies independently as well as cooperatively with other lab members as a team. Have the capability to write manuscripts and grants for quality publications.
