A NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Dax Fu in Department of Physiology, John Hopkins School of Medicine. We are seeking a productive cell biologist to investigate cellular functions of a human zinc transporter (ZnT8) in a multidisciplinary research team to develop precision medicine for early diagnosis and prevention of diabetes. ZnT8 is a proven biomarker for type-1 diabetes and a validated antidiabetogenic drug target for type-2 diabetes. A PhD in cell biology or related disciplines is required. A strong interest in diabetes research is mandatory, and relevant experience with tools in molecular biology, cell biology of pancreatic beta-cells, viral mediated gene delivery, CRISPR editing and iPSC differentiation are preferred. Research projects will focus on investigating the pathophysiological roles of ZnT8 in pancreatic beta-cells, and elucidating the molecular mechanisms driving ZnT8-specific therapeutic interventions in various beta-cell and animal models.
