The College of Engineering at Purdue University invites applications for the Lillian Gilbreth Postdoctoral Fellowships at Purdue Engineering. The Gilbreth Postdoctoral Fellowships at Purdue Engineering are awarded in memory of Dr. Lillian Moller Gilbreth, Professor at Purdue from 1935-1948. She was elected to the US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in 1965, awarded the prestigious Hoover Medal in 1966 and advised five U.S. presidents on critical issues dealing with civil defense, war production, and rehabilitation of the handicapped. A world renowned pioneer in the application of psychology to industrial engineering, she laid the foundations of modern industrial engineering, invented designs of consumer appliances, hospital, office, and sport equipment to make work and life easier. Dr. Gilbreth’s work epitomized interdisciplinary research and broader impact on industry and society.
The highly competitive Gilbreth Fellowship Program seeks to attract and prepare outstanding individuals with recently awarded PhD’s for a successful career in engineering academia through interdisciplinary research, training and professional development. Fellows are selected by a committee of distinguished faculty on the basis of their outstanding scholarly achievements and their potential for significant, broad impact on industry and society.
Eligible candidates are individuals with exceptional talent who have either completed their PhD within two years of the Fellowship application deadline or are in the final year of their PhD program in engineering or related areas at the time of application. Applicants can propose their own innovative research proposals or choose to develop their proposals based on interdisciplinary topics posted on the Fellowship website.
Lillian Gilbreth Fellows are provided with:
• Flexibility and support in conducting interdisciplinary research
• An inclusive environment with faculty mentorship and activities organized by the college to promote professional growth
• An annual stipend of $60,000 and benefits
• A $5,000 grant for professional development activities
The deadline for receiving candidates’ application materials is April 8, 2018.
