This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. : We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to develop multilevel algorithms for strongly-coupled multiphysics systems, with an emphasis on approximate block factorization and Schur complement-based preconditioners. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively on a multidisciplinary research team conducting fundamental algorithmic research and development of high-performance implementations in the Trilinos solvers framework. Particular emphasis will be on algorithms that scale well to high core counts on next generation architectures. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Conduct basic research in Schur-complement based solvers for linear systems arising from magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) and other plasma models + Implement high-performance, portable C++ numerical algorithms in Trilinos, based on Kokkos primitives + Analyze and improve algorithmic and parallel scalability of linear solvers within MHD/plasma simulations on leading DOE computing platforms + Communicate your research in peer-reviewed journal publications and conference presentations
+ PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in mathematics, computer science, or related engineering or science discipline + Experience with numerical linear algebra + Experience in advanced object-oriented programming in C++ + Experience with scalable linear solver techniques, including multigrid methods + Good communication skills and research experience as evidenced by presentations, technical publications, released software, and/or work with applications
+ Experience utilizing C++ component software libraries for scientific software development + Experience in parallel programming such as MPI, Kokkos, OpenMP, CUDA and/or threads + Experience in high-performance computing on distributed, parallel computing architectures + Experience in high-performance computing on Intel Xeon Phi and NVIDIA GPU architectures + Experience developing or working with Trilinos or a comparable scientific software library + Experience working in collaborative software development environments

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications.
