A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Zalzman Laboratory, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Center for Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is a research-intensive department, which is routinely ranked in the top 15% in the United States.
The Zalzman laboratory studies novel mechanisms governing cellular lifespan with the goal of enhancing the therapeutic potential of stem cells for regenerative medicine. The project goal of this fellowship position is to establish novel cellular therapies for Parkinson’s disease using human adult stem cells in vitro and in vivo in a rodent animal model. The position will also involve close collaboration with other labs in the department, as well as labs in the National Institute on Aging/ National Institutes of Health.
We are seeking talented, self-motivated candidates with a strong work ethic who have recently obtained his/her Ph.D. in the biomedical field. Candidates with experience and background in rodent behavioral assays and in vivo neurosurgical skills are preferred. Candidates must have interest in neuroscience, stem cell biology, molecular biology or related field with a strong publication record in these areas. A thorough knowledge of the English language with good writing and oral communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
