The Nano and Micro Sensors Department is a seeking highly motivated candidate for a Postdoctoral Researcher Position. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Utilize capabilities in the field of microfluidics, micro sensors, and sensor and biosensor technologies; + Be knowledgeable in the design, fabrication, and analysis of microfluidic devices with additional experience developing or using biosensors; + Program in Labview, Matlab, and C as needed; + Design standalone nano/microfluidic systems and be able to set up and conduct experimental studies using state-of-the-art hardware; + Use experience with either acoustic, impedance, optical, electrical, or mechanical transduction devices.
+ PhD in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Applied Physics, or a related field; + Experience in microfluidics, micro sensors, sensors, and biosensors; + Extensive experience in the design, fabrication and analysis of standalone nanofluidic and microfluidic systems; + A record of publishing peer-reviewed journal articles.
+ Experience with either acoustic, impedance, optical, electrical, or mechanical transduction devices; + Programming experience in Labview, Matlab, and C; + Experience in laboratory ownership including writing procedures and handling environmental, safety and health documentation; + Proposal writing and evaluation skills; + Knowledge of polymer chemistry and sensor surface modifications; + Experience with portable sensor system development; + Demonstrated experience in setting up and conducting experimental studies using state-of-the-art hardware; + Experience in working in a multidisciplinary environment; + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Sandia's Biosensors and Nanomaterials Department conducts research and development at the interface between biology, synthetic chemistry, and surface science to deliver prototype solutions in applications ranging from biodetection to photovoltaics. Sensor development includes discrete sensors and sensor arrays based on piezoelectric, fiber-optic, micro-optic, electrochemical, biochemical, and microimpedance devices. Microfluidic sample preparation prior to detection is a growing interest. Synthetic chemistry efforts include nanoparticle growth, surface functionalization, and molecular electronics. This work addresses needs for novel materials in addition to supporting the biosensor development effort.

This position does not currently require a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted security clearance. Sandia will conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record checks, and employment and education verifications.
