The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position will be involved with the planning and conducting of projects related to cell culture and molecular biology in support of research on HIV and aging which is funded by NIH in Dr. Savita Pahwa's laboratory. Specifically, the Postdoctoral Associate will be working on the ARRA - Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome project. The Postdoctoral Associate will be responsible for the flow cytometry component and will coordinate sample disposition for cytokine and gene array and for molecular assays by qPCR to confirm gene of interest. Duties may include, but are not limited to, using routine and advanced cell culture techniques, maintaining cell lines, determining the regulatory FAC, assays of cell proliferation, and cellular molecules. Duties may also include conducting research independently and with good laboratory practice, writing manuscripts for peer reviewed journals, giving presentations that include background research, providing assistance to the Principal Investigator in research projects and teaching basic and applied immunology to students and new members of the laboratory.
The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a closely related discipline. Possess research experience in immune cell, HIV pathogenesis, and basic immunology of innate and adaptive immunity. Should be familiar with concepts and recent literature related to HIV pathogenesis and basic immunology of innate and adaptive immunity. Strong organizational skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong command of the English language.
