The Morris research group at Virginia Tech is currently seeking applications for a postdoctoral associate in the field of UHV surface science. This search is associated with an effort in the Morris group to study the fundamental kinetics and reaction mechanisms of gas-phase chemical warfare agents on surfaces. A new instrument combining precision vaporous dosing capabilities with infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry has been constructed for this work. The new instrument is located at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, where the majority of the studies will be performed. Qualified candidates will have extensive experience in using UHV methods and instrumentation, writing scientific papers, and be able to work effectively in a team-approach to making new discoveries. Some travel between Aberdeen and Virginia Tech will be required. This is an exciting and unique position for any candidate interested in gaining experience in government labs, while maintaining strong ties to academia.
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to obtain government-level clearance for this position, which requires US citizenship.
